Originally called ‘Queenstown’, the small town of St Andrews was and still is a small, rural, charming town with a close and friendly population of people
In 1853 -1854 a mining population settled in St Andrews with the discovery of GOLD. The fist gold in the area was discovered in Warrandyte in 1851, the area from Warrandyte to then “Queenstown” was known as the “Caledonian Diggings”.
The St Andrews Post Office and Hotel was established in 1856 by W.Watson and sons and was leased out to William Morton in 1857. John Corke Knell took over and applied for a licence for the St Andrews Hotel which is where it stands to this day. John died in 1867 which is wh en his wife Eliza Smith took over and began to run the hotel herself. Eliza was known to be a very well respected woman in the town and the business remained in her family for 60 years.
St Andrews Hotel is now known for the bikes, live bands, open fireplaces, great pub food and it‘s unique small country pub vibe. Experience St Andrews Hotel for what’ it really is. A small country pub full with a friendly welcoming community and all round great times.
